Izabela Development Project

North Adriatic Sea, Croatian Sector

The Izabela Development Project represents a sophisticated offshore gas production facility in the North Adriatic Sea, commissioned by EDINA. Located approximately 57 kilometers northwest from Pula, Croatia, and 21 kilometers north of the IVANA gas field, this dual-platform installation demonstrates advanced engineering solutions for unmanned gas extraction in moderate water depths.

TECON was contracted to provide comprehensive detailed design services for both the topside and jacket structures, encompassing all phases from installation through operational deployment. The project required meticulous engineering to accommodate the challenging marine environment while ensuring structural integrity and operational efficiency for long-term unmanned production.

Project Scope

The development consists of two distinct offshore platforms designed to exploit the Izabela gas field efficiently. Both facilities feature lift-installed jacket sub-structures with four conductor slots and 2-level deck configurations, optimized for unmanned operation. The engineering scope encompassed structural analysis, foundation design, and integration of production equipment within strict weight and spatial constraints.

Izabela South Platform

  • Four-leg jacket structure designed for 37.5-meter water depth
  • Foundation system comprising four 72-inch skirt piles
  • Jacket weight: 550 tonnes
  • Topside operating weight: 800 tonnes
  • Four conductor slots with integrated deck structure
  • Complete structural analysis for in-place and temporary conditions

Izabela North Platform

  • Truss column configuration with four horizontal frames
  • Foundation system utilizing three 72-inch driven piles through sleeves
  • Installation in 36.6-meter water depth
  • Jacket weight: 300 tonnes
  • Topside operating weight: 420 tonnes
  • Satellite platform design optimized for remote operation

Engineering Approach

TECON’s engineering methodology integrated comprehensive structural analysis with practical construction considerations. The detailed design phase addressed both permanent operational conditions and critical temporary phases during installation. Advanced finite element analysis ensured structural integrity under combined environmental loads including wave action, current forces, and seismic considerations specific to the Adriatic region.

The foundation design incorporated driven pile technology through oversized sleeves, providing robust anchoring while accommodating installation tolerances. Topside structures were engineered to support production equipment, utilities, and safety systems within stringent weight budgets, while maintaining accessibility for periodic maintenance operations. Material selection and corrosion protection systems were specified for the aggressive marine environment, ensuring design life objectives.

Throughout the project, TECON coordinated closely with EDINA to optimize structural configurations, validate load assumptions, and refine construction methodologies. The deliverables included complete fabrication drawings, installation procedures, and technical documentation supporting platform certification and regulatory compliance within Croatian territorial waters.
