FSRU Ravenna and Connection to National Gas Pipeline Network
Location: 8.5 km offshore from Punta Marina, Ravenna, Italy
The FSRU Ravenna project is part of the national emergency initiative for gas supply diversification (DL 17.05.2022, N. 50). Snam FSRU Italia received authorization on November 7, 2022, to develop an offshore storage and regasification terminal at the existing Petra platform, built in the 1980s.
TECON Role: Detailed structural design of the new terminal offshore structures and revamping of the existing Petra jetty.
Project Scope
Offshore Infrastructure
- Unloading platform (54m x 48m) on jacket structure with 4 foundation piles (Ø1675mm)
- 6 berthing dolphins (Ø3000mm) with fender systems
- 8 mooring dolphins (Ø3000mm) with quick-release hooks (150-ton capacity)
- 22 walkway support piles (Ø1500mm)
- Pipeline DN 650 (26″) at 100 barg connected to subsea pipeline
- Passive fire protection (60-90 minutes) for critical elements
Connection System
- 8.5 km subsea pipeline (DN 650, 100 barg) from Petra platform to shore
- 2.5 km onshore pipeline from ex-SAROM to PDE facility
- 31.5 km main pipeline (DN 900, 75 barg) to Ravenna Node
- Wobbe Index correction facility
Engineering Approach
Analysis Methodology
- Static and dynamic in-service analysis (waves, wind, currents)
- Spectral fatigue analysis for 25-year operational life
- Seismic analysis with response spectrum (NTC 2018)
- Driven pile foundation design (ISO 19902 and NTC 2018)
- Transportation and offshore installation analysis
Design Conditions
- Extreme wave: Hmax = 9.31 m (without breakwater)
- Extreme wind: 38.2 m/s at 10m elevation
- Extreme current: 0.50 m/s at 10m depth
- Water depth: 18.0 m mean sea level
- Seismic: ag = 0.124g
- Marine growth: 150 mm, density 1.56 t/m³
Design Standards: ISO 19900, ISO 19901, ISO 19902, EN 1993, NTC 2018
